The Centenary Celebration of Liu Fonian’s Birth is held.
On Oct.16, the University’s 63th Anniversary Day, hundreds of experts, scholars, renowned alumni, teachers and students gathered on campus to attend the Centenary Celebration of Liu Fonian’s Birth & Founding Ceremony of Faculty of Education. President Chen Qun chaired the ceremony.

This year is the centenary of Liu Fonian, a famous educationist in China, a major creator of ECNU and a former ECNU President. To celebrate his centenary, the University especially made a statue of Mr. Liu Fonian. Yuan Yunkai and Zhang Ruikun, Mr. Liu’s two successors and two former ECNU Presidents, disclosed the statue. Mr. Liu’s former friends, colleagues, students and families recalled the beloved educationist on the ceremony.

After that, the founding ceremony of the Faculty of Education was held. Yang Changli, Vice Chairwoman of the University Council, read out relevant documents of the establishment of Faculty of Education and cadre appointment. Tong Shijun, Chairman of the University Council, delivers a speech about the influence of Mr. Liu on the development of ECNU and China's education. Tong also introduced the significance of the founding of Faculty of Education in his speech.

To celebrate Mr. Liu’s centenary anniversary, the University has carried out a series of activities since April, such as Photos Exhibition for Liu Fonian’s Centenary, Founding of Liu Fonian Education Fund, Fonian Interdisciplinary Education Research Forum, and the establishment of Fonian Primary School in Mr. Liu’s hometown, Liling of Hunan Province, etc. What’s more, the University will also set two programs named after Liu Fonian to encourage young teachers and students to do research in education science.
