ECNU Holds 5th International Symposium on Urban Society

The 5th International Symposium on Urban  Society is held in ECNU.

 

To further promote the academic research on urbanization and to focus on the basic problems and development of China’s urbanization from a comparative perspective, the 5th International Symposium on Urban Society as well as the symposium of “Comparative Urbanization: Basic Problems and China’s Road” were jointly held by School of Social Development of ECNU, Institute of Urban Development and Joint Research Center for Social Development (ECNU-Shanghai New York University) on October 11-12 at Zhongbei Campus.

Vice President Guo Weilu delivered a welcoming speech on the symposium. He pointed out that ECNU has a long academic tradition in Urban Sociology and its research of urban society has achieved a good reputation and influence in academia. He hoped experts and scholars attending the symposium would provide better suggestions to help ECNU make greater contribution to urban studies.

 

 

The symposium attracts over 100 experts and scholars from home and abroad.

 

As a brand event in the construction of key disciplines of sociology, the International Symposium on Urban Society has already been held four times by ECNU and has earned good academic impact at home and abroad. The 5th Symposium was divided into four sub-forums and nearly 100 experts from home and abroad participated in the discussion of Metropolitan Population Structure and Social Governance, Social Governance in the Domain of Urbanization, Urban Development and Its Future from Global Perspective, and Basic Experience and Problems of China’s Urbanization.

On the symposium, experts and scholars including Prof. Tong Xing from Nanjing University, Prof. Claude Didry from Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan, Professor Han Wenrui from Shanghai New York University, and Prof. Tian Yipeng from Jilin University made professional speeches on various topics focusing on urbanization in China and some other countries.
