This year is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Liu Fonian, a famous educator and a founder and a former President of ECNU. An opening ceremony of the centenary celebrations and exhibition of Liu Fonian, was held in ECNU’s library on Minghang Campus on April 1.

During the ceremony, Fan Guorui, Dean of School of Educational Science, first introduced the life experiences of Liu Fonian from all perspectives. Then Archives Director Tang Tao introduced the preparation and content of the centenary exhibition. Hu Shanshan, a student from Meng Chengxian College, expressed her respect for Mr. Liu and her determination for the future career as a teacher.

In his address delivered on the ceremony, Tong Shijun, Chairman of the University Council, fully affirmed Liu’s contribution to China’s education and ECNU’s development. He pointed out the essence of Mr. Liu’s spirits lied in the following aspects: patriotism, the combination of educational theory and practice, broad international vision, interdisciplinary ideology and the unity of teaching skills training and academic research. He hoped generations of the University would learn from Mr. Liu.
The exhibition attracts lot of visitors.
To commemorate Liu’s contribution to the University and the cause of education in China, a series of activities will be held this year, including the publication of “Centennial Album of President Liu Fonian” in late June, a high-level forum on interdisciplinary education research in middle August, etc.
Liu Fonian (1914-2001), born in Liling, Hunan, was a famous educator, educationist, a founder and a former President of ECNU.
