On March 19, Yu Lizhong, former President of ECNU and now Chancellor of New York University (NYU) Shanghai, donated his medal and certificate of Legion of Honor to the Archives of ECNU.
Tang Tao, Director of the Archive, received the donation. The Legion of Honor set up by Napoleon in 1802 is the highest honor issued by the French government and also one of the most famous insignias in the world. On July 24, 2013, the French government issued the insignia to Yu for his outstanding achievement in Sino-French academic exchanges and technology talents training.

Yu Lizhong has been attaching great importance to the construction of the Archives all the time. When he was the President of ECNU, he donated his own 15 files, including the certificates of honorary doctorate, yearbooks, graduation photos, gown shawls, and ribbons, which he had obtained from universities including American Montclair State University, Loughborough University, and the University of Liverpool as well as the huge group photo taken with State leaders at a New Year’s party for the overseas students.
During the donation, Yu learned that the Archives was strengthening the collection and construction of a special file, that is, “manuscripts”. He immediately expressed that he would donate his own manuscripts and other valuable materials to the Archives.
