More than 20 scientists and students from the Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) and SKLEC, ECNU, attended the workshop. At the workshop, the scientists shared new research results and various insights on the following topics: the use of constructed wetlands for wastewater treatment in Tanzania; glacial-interglacial fluxes and burial rate of carbon and nitrogen along the Tanzanian Continental Margin; floating treatment islands: the status of art in China; responses of salt water intrusion to climate change at the Yangtze Estuary.

Both sides discussed about research interests, potential joint research projects and education of future students. Tanzania Ph.D candidates studying in SKLEC made reports on the plans and progress of their research. Supervisors from NM-AIST and SKLEC analyzed the feasibility of their plans and evaluated their research projects.
