On behalf of the University, Ren Youqun (L) introduces the achievements of IGCLTE to Xu Jialu(R).
On March 23, Xu Jialu, the then Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and Director of ECNU’s Institute of Global Chinese Language Teacher Education (IGCLTE), visited ECNU and checked the works in the Institute. Tong Shijun, Chariman of the University Council and Ren Youqun, Vice President &Vice Chairman of the University Council accompanied him during the visit.
Xu spoke highly of the Institute’s work in the past five years. He also expressed his good wishes for the Institute to face the challenges and seize the opportunities to promote its development in future, basing on the academic resources of the University.
Xu enjoys the performances made by the volunteers.
Then he watched the theatrical performances of the volunteers to Thailand and talked with them cordially about the good learning environment at ECNU and expressed his expectations for them to fulfill their missions in Thailand as the “missionaries” of Chinese culture.
At the meeting with all the teachers and staff from the Institute, Xu analyzed in-depth the present situations and possible challenges of “Chinese culture going out of the nation’s boundary” from nearly all perspectives. He emphasized the importance of international promotion of Chinese language and Confucius Institute in enhancing national cultural soft power as well as improving moral and cultural qualities of the whole popularity.
Xu encourages the volunteers to be good "missionaries" of Chinese culture.
Tong Shijun said that the Institute would make full use of the resources of the University and make the construction of Confucius Institute an opportunity for the University to better develop its related disciplines.
