Can freshmen walk out of the classroom and have their first lesson in the university in another way? On Sept. 9, the freshmen of International College of Chinese Studies (ICOCS) had their first lesson by visiting Qunxian Tang and University History Museum at Zhongbei Campus to familiarize themselves with the history and tradition of the University. Ren Youqun, Vice President & Vice Chairman of the University Council, attended the lesson as a specially invited guide.

In the University History Museum, all the students gathered around Xu Xiaochu, the guide of the museum, and asked various questions about the university history. Ren Youqun’s arrival and his excellent introduction of the university in English gave the students a pleasant surprise.

The visit to University History Museum impressed all the freshmen from home and abroad deeply. From the inheritance of Great China University and Guanghua University, two predecessors of ECNU, to the galaxy of talents among Grade 1977 & 1978 alumni, all the photos and stories made these freshmen confident and pride of being ECNUers.

During the visit, Kang Zhuo, whose father was an ECNU student of Grade 1985, even found his father’s photo by searching in the museum’s computer. Though his father’s hair showed a characteristic style of the 1980s, the young man in the photo and Kang Zhuo still looked alike. “I’ve never seen such a photo of my father!” exclaimed Kang excitedly. Maybe that is the way that ECNU passes its tradition and spirits from generation to generation.
