After 101-day hard work, workers successfully completed the thorough overhaul of Li Ke San Guan (meaning Three Buildings of Science) on schedule and the building was put into use recently.
On August 9th morning, the overhaul completion & inauguration ceremony of Li Ke San Guan was held at hall on the first floor of the building. Tong Shijun, Chairman of ECNU’s University Council, Chen Qun, ECNU President, Yu Lizhong, Chancellor of New York University (NYU) Shanghai, Jeffrey Lehman, Vice Chancellor of NYU Shanghai, Guo Weilu, Vice President of ECNU, Wang Xiaojing, Provost of NYU Shanghai, Pei Xiaoqian, Assistant President of ECNU, Zhao Jiafu, a prestigious renovation artist of inscriptions and paintings in Shanghai, and Liu Yongxiang, a professor of ECNU’s Institute of Ancient Chinese Book Studies, attended the ceremony hosted by Sun Zhenrong, Vice President of ECNU.

On behalf of NYU Shanghai, Jeffrey Lehman delivered a speech at the ceremony. Lehman extended congratulations to the inauguration of Li Ke San Guan after its thorough overhaul and expressed appreciations to ECNU for making NYU Shanghai as the first user of the building and providing such a wonderful place with history to students of NYU Shanghai. According to Lehman, NYU Shanghai recruited students for the first time this year, and these students will study in Li Ke San Guan.

Tong Shijun recalled the days when he studied and worked in Li Ke San Guan affectionately in his speech at the ceremony. According to Tong, the building has not only witnessed the start-up and development of natural sciences including geography, biology and physics of ECNU, but also become the birthplace of ECNU’s disciplines of philosophy and social sciences. Li Ke San Guan had recorded wonderful stories and hardships of ECNU during its development, and it would continue to witness the University’s on-going development on a bigger stage of the world, said Tong.

Li Ke San Guan refers to the three buildings surrounding the University motto tablet on Zhongbei Campus. With their grand and traditionally symmetrical style, Li Ke San Guan, which was built in the beginning of 1950s, is regarded as one of the most distinctive constructions on the University campus.
