Culture is the root for a nation to develop and thrive. China's intangible cultural heritage contains the unique spiritual values of the Chinese nation and embodies the vitality and creativity of the Chinese culture.
This year’s June 8th is the 8th Cultural Heritage Day of China, and also a day near the Chinese traditional festival, the Dragon Boat Festival. To make more people understand the traditional customs of the Festival and pass on the traditional cultural heritage, the Institute for Anthropology and Folklore of ECNU’s School of Social Development, Folk Culture Center of Changing District and Offshore Wind Folk Society organized a fascinating Dragon Boat Festival fete at Minhang Campus.
Dragon Dance is a necessity of most Dragon Boat Festival fetes.
Dancers perform Huaqiang Dance, a traditional Chinese dance with short spear used in ancient times.
“Qu Yuan”, a great poet in ancient China and his death is commemorated by the Dragon Boat Festival, performs the custom of “Exorcizing Five Du”, meaning to exorcize five poisonous creatures including the scorpion, the snake, the centipede, the gecko and the toad.
