Scholars Discuss Intellectuals and the Transformation of Modern China

On the afternoon of May 5, a forum titled Intellectuals and the Transformation of Modern China —— Utopia Culture Salon was held in ECNU. It was co-sponsored by Guangxi Normal University Publishing House and the Center for Chinese Contemporary History of Si-mian Institute for Advanced studies in Humanities. 

 

  

 

 

 

At the forum, renowned scholars including Xu Jilin, Chen Sihe, Xiao Gongqin, Yang Kuisong, Liu Qing, Zhang Qing discussed the relationship between Intellectuals and the Transformation of Modern China with the focus of three key words, namely, scholars, modern China and transformation. Mao Haijian, President of Si-man Academy delivered a speech at the forum and Prof. Xu Zidong of Hongkong Lingnan University hosted the forum.

 

 

 

During the Q&A session, the renowned scholars’ artistic and eloquent replies aroused applause and laughter from the audiences and put the forum into climax. Most of the scholars attending the forum believed that Intellectuals and the Transformation of Modern China was an issue worth profound thinking, which needs not only the witness of history but also the unremitting efforts of the young generation.
