On April 23, at the Campus Center of the Zhongbei Campus, the Concert of Sections of Classic Chinese and Foreign Operas took place. Without seeing the concert with one’s own eyes, no one could have imagined that such a high-level opera performance could be held on this small university stage. In the concert, a colorful world of opera was presented with the combination of European classic operas and Chinese modern operas as sections of three Chinese operas and four Western operas were shown on the stage.

In the concert, there were not only sections of modern Chinese operas including The White Haired Girl, Sister Jiang and The Savage Land, but also classic Western operas of great dramatic tension including Don Nitzsch Siti's romanticopera Don Pasquale, Nicollet’s operetta, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Puccini’s verismo opera The Artist's Career, and Mozart's comic opera, A Woman's Heart.

Apart from the two opera concerts held at the Campus Center, the Concert of Sections of Classic Chinese and Foreign Operas was also held twice at Shanghai City Theatre a few days ago. As a show of teaching and learning achievements, all the performers and directors were from ECNU’s Department of Music. Their excellent performance impressed almost all the audiences.

"Although tonight’s performance is not held in a brilliant grand theatre and there are no exquisite costumes, props and scenery, it is undoubtedly a successful concert and a good try of combining teaching with practice," said Yu Zhen, Vice Chairman of Shanghai Musician Association.
