On March 13-15, Tong Shijun, the University Council Chairman of ECNU,attended the 7th Global Colloquium of University Presidents held in New York.
The colloquium aimed to reach an agreement on public health among world-famous universities, seek solutions to the challenges faced by the global public policy and put forward the development framework of global public heath after 2015 for UN’s Millennium Development Goals.

Together with other leaders from 26 universities around the world, Tong expounded his views at the colloquium and signed his name on the university president statement in support of UN’s efforts to perform the global responsibilities of universities. At the colloquium, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon delivered speeches at the opening and closing ceremonies and attended the special discussion session. Former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and other famous people also delivered speeches.

Tong exchanges gifts with the President of Simon Fraser University.
Before attending the colloquium, Tong had been invited to visit the Headquarter of UN Academic Impact Program aiming to make education the engine to solve the global problem by promoting the cooperation between higher educational institutions and UN. ECNU is one of the first members of the program. Hasan Ferdou, manager of the program, met Tong and expressed the willingness to work with ECNU on the program.
After the colloquium, Tong visited St Olaf College on March 16. ECNU has kept cooperation with the college located in Minnesota for nearly 30 years since it signed the cooperation agreement with ECNU in 1984. Both sides expressed their expectations to offer a wider, better and newer cooperation platform on the basis of 30 years’ successful cooperation.

Tong deliver a speech at Simon Fraser University.
On March 17-19, Tong went to Vancouver, Canada, and visited University of British Columbia (UBC) and Simon Fraser University. During his stay in Vancouver, Tong also visited Liu Fei, Chinese Consul General in Vancouver, and Cai Hongan, executive chairman of Canadian Chinese Association.
