Alumnus Cui Tiankai Becomes the 10th Chinese Ambassador to the United States

Ambassador Cui Tiankai, the new Chinese Ambassador to the United States, arrived in Washington, DC on April 2 to assume office. 

 

Ambassador Cui was greeted by representatives from the US State Department and diplomats from the Chinese Embassy. Ambassador Cui is the 10th Chinese Ambassador to the United States. His predecessor, Ambassador Zhang Yesui, completed his tenure and returned to China on Feb 24. 

 

     

 

Born in Shanghai in October 1952, Ambassador Cui is a native of Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. Majoring in Modern English, he studied and then taught in School of Foreign Languages of East China Normal University during 1974-1979. He received Master of Public Administration from School of Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University in 1987. He served as Chinese Vice Foreign Minister from 2009 to 2013, and prior to that, Chinese Ambassador to Japan.

 

As an alumnus of ECNU, Ambassador Cui has fond feelings for his Alma Mater. On May 11, 2009, he returned to Zhongbei campus with his wife Ms. Ni Peijun to visit the place where he once studied and worked for years.
