
Scholars bow to the bronze statues of Mr. Xu Zhen’e and Ms. Cheng Junying to show their respect.
When the red curtain was removed, 30 scholars across the country were divided into 6 groups to bow to the newly- built bronze statues of Mr. Xu Zhen’e and Ms. Cheng Junying, two famous researchers of the studies of ancient books and writings, which was a scene on the 30th anniversary celebration of the establishment of the Institute of the Studies of Ancient Books & Writings of ECNU.

On 3rd April, the institute held an academic forum and the inauguration ceremony of the bronze statues of Xu Zhen’e and Cheng Junying to celebrate its 30th birthday. Scholars from scientific research institutions, publishers and universities like Fudan University, Shanghai Normal University, Suzhou University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Publishing House of Ancient Books & Writings, etc., gathered together to recall their memories of the development of the institute and to have a theoretical conversation of studies in ancient books and writings in depth.

Founded in 1983 by Xu Zhen’e (1901-1986) and Cheng Junying (1901-1993), ECNU’s Institute of the Studies of Ancient Books & Writings is one of the most prestigious university institutes of ancient books and writings in China. The institute has completed the works like Zhuxi’s Encyclopedia, The Complete Works of Gu Yanwu, The General History of Chinese Educational System, The Chinese Ceremony etc, which are enjoying high prestige in academic circles at home and abroad.
