With the opening ceremony of 2012 International Master Program of Education for Developing Countries held on September 14, 24 students from 17 developing countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America begin their one-year study in China.
At the ceremony, Vice Chairman of ECNU Council & Vice President Ren Youqun first welcomed all the new students of the Program, and then gave a systemic introduction of the development history of ECNU, especially its advantages in China’s teacher education. In the end of his speech, he expressed his sincere hope that students of the Program should make full use of the one-year study here in Shanghai to learn Chinese society and economic development with their own eyes, experience China and love China.
Soobeeraj Parmessa from Mauritius delivered a speech on behalf of the new students. After introducing the students' diversified backgrounds, Parmessa expressed the appreciation for the scholarship provided by the Chinese government and his anticipation of the study here. He figured that the experience here would make great influence on both the development of the students' own career and professional skills but also the reformation and development of education in their countries.
The International Master Program for Developing Countries, a high-level foreign aid project launched by Ministry of Education and Ministry of Commerce, trains high-grade professional talents and senior managers of various fields for developing countries. Tsinghua University, Peking University, ECNU and other 3 universities in the country undertake the project's 6 programs of public management, public policies, education, etc. As the third university after Tsinghua University, Peking University in the country to carry out the project, ECNU takes the responsibility of the education program.
Huang Ying, Vice Director of the International Exchanges Department of Ministry of Education, Wang Xin Ping, Vice Director of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce and Jin Ying, Vice Director of Foreign Economic Cooperation Office of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, also attended the ceremony and expressed their positive affirmation for ECNU's achievement and efforts in the Program, as well as their anticipation for its better development in the future.
