ECNU team members celebrate their success in in the 3rd National College Physics Competition

Five students from ECNU’s Department of Physics won the second prize in the 3rd National College Physics Competition, which was hosted at Beijing Normal University during August 18th to August 22nd.

Coached by Prof. Xue Xun and Prof. Qian Jin and led by Ms. Huang Rui , ECNU team made up of 5 students from the Department of Physics, namely, Fan Zhun, Li Weidong, Tang Yongcheng, Wang Shancha, and Wen Li won the prize after a three-day fierce competition with 36 teams of universities around the country.

National College Physics Competition is designed to train college students’ ability of solving complex scientific problems. It asks participants to offer convincing solutions to physics problems given by the competition.

The competition adopts team debate, a competition mode used in the International Young Physicists’ Tournament, and all contestants have to debate on a selected open problem of physics with basic knowledge of physics, theoretical analysis, experimental design, and experimental results, etc.

Different from some test-oriented education mode, the competition shows more value of scientific education, exploration and practice, as it pays more attention to the combination between physics and daily life, and the contestants’ ability of teamwork as well.

ECNU’s Department of Physics had launched the selection of candidates for the competition since last September, and held a preliminary in May of this year. The 5 students stood out among over 100 students t from different departments and schools in ECNU due to their excellent display in both theoretical and practical ability in physics.
