Search Announcement: Dean of School of Educational Science at ECNU

07/20/2012

East China Normal University (ECNU) has chosen a search committee for identifying candidates for the next dean of School of Educational Science (SES). Chaired by President CHEN Qun of ECNU and joined by Professor DING Gang, the current Dean of SES, the search committee invites inquiries, nominations and applications for the position.

Founded in 1980 as the first institute of its kind in universities all over the country, SES of ECNU has greatly benefited from the insight of LIU Funian, ECNU’s then president who took initiative in establishing SES also as a leading education scholar of the country. Inheriting a tradition traced back to MENG Xiancheng, ECNU’s founding president and author of several major books on education in China in the first half of the 20th century, SES has the honor of being home to a number of highly ranked institutes in the field of education studies, including Dept. of Education, Dept. of Curriculum & Instruction, Dept. of Educational Information & Technology, Ins. of Vocation Education & Adult Education, Ins. of Higher Education, as well as Institute of Curriculum and Instruction and Institute of School Education Reform and Development, both being MOE (Ministry of Education) Key Research Bases for Humanities and Social Sciences. Most importantly SES is an academic community cherished by numerous colleagues well-known at home and abroad for their excellent work as education scholars and consultants. Attracting hundreds of students every year, including Ph.D. candidates in all the sub-disciplines of education studies, the Program in Education of ECNU conducted by SES is officially enlisted as one of the National Key Primary Disciplines, a rare honor given to merely two programs in ECNU altogether.

A successful candidate should have prestigious achievements in education studies, high level of personal integrity, and rich experiences as an administrator. He or she should be recognized for being able to lead SES with a broad mind, a far sight, a strong interest in academic innovation, a passionate commitment to public service, and a skillful competence in inter-personal coordination, inter-disciplinary collaboration and international communication. He or she should, of course, be healthy and energetic, preferably under the age of 55.

Confidential review of applications, nominations and expressions of interest will begin as soon as they are received and will continue until an appointment is made. To be ensured full consideration, please forward a letter of recommendation or a letter of interest (together with a curriculum vitae) to DeanSearch@admin.ecnu.edu.cn by August 31, 2012 (electronic files preferred).
