November 16th marked the 60th anniversary of East China Normal University, the first normal university in the new China. About 3000 guests at home and abroad, alumni, faculty and students gathered together to grandly celebrate the 60th celebration in the gymnasium at North Zhong Shan Road campus.
The secretary of ECNU Party committee Tong Shijun presided over the meeting. Tong said that the university was a great creation of human civilization. The anniversary celebration was held for us to further understand the spirits of the university. The 60th anniversary offered us a special opportunity to appreciate the quality of life and the growth of aliveness in the university. Through summarizing the development and introspecting the history, we could better carry forward the tradition of our university and requite the society.
The president Yu Lizhong pointed out three great significances of the anniversary celebration through the retrospect of ECNU 60 years’ history and tracing back to nearly 90 years ago. Firstly, the celebration expressed the respect to those founders of this university. Secondly, it gave great thanks to all of people who rained benefits over us. Thirdly, it showed the firm pursuit of our education belief.
Later, the video that sent the words from New York University president John Sexton was played in the meeting. He firstly congratulated our 60th anniversary celebration, and then expected that both universities could fulfill their missions cooperatively, making progress together to deepen the mutual understanding and exchange between people.
