Dr. Ashworth, Director of China Office, NSF, Visits ECNU

Dr. Ashworth, director of the China Office, National Science Foundation (NSF), United State, paid a visit to ECNU on September 16 and was received by president Yu Lizhong and vice president Chen Qun.

At the meeting, Yu Lizhong introduced ECNU’s development over the past 60 years and its goal for future development. And Chen Qun briefed the guest on the preparation of New York University Shanghai. Dr. Ashworth congratulated the presidents on the university’s recent achievements and expressed her concern over New York University Shanghai and her expectation for more in-depth cooperation.

Zhang Wei, director of ECNU’s Science and Technology Department, introduced the university’s team of scientific research and the achievements they have made in recent years. Wang Xiaoqin, professor of the Mathematics Department, briefed on the university’s maths education, which attracted much attention from Dr. Ashworth, who expressed her admiration of the talent of Chinese students in maths and her wish to enhance cooperation between American and Chinese universities in this field.
