07/16/2010

Over one hundred and twenty students from famous universities in Britain visited our university on July 12th, 2010. The universities included Oxford University, Cambridge University, Manchester University, The University of Nottingham, The University of Edinburgh, and The University of Leeds.

In the opening ceremony on July 12th, our President Yu Lizhong gave them a warm welcome, wishing them to experience the profound Chinese culture as well as the dynamics of modern China. He hoped that they would build an ever-lasting friendship with their Chinese counterparts.

Mr. Dan Herman, on behalf of the host university – Manchester University, made a speech to them, wishing that through this program, students from Britain and China can establish a deep friendship. After that, student representatives from both countries made a speech respectively.

In the following three weeks, the British students will participate in the activities held at Shanghai. They will learn Chinese, Chinese calligraphy and folk music in our university, watch the 2010 Shanghai World Exposition, visit well-known corporations and industrial incubators, and meeting Shanghai people in their homes.

It is reported that the program has raised great interest in Britain. Many students want their universities open such programs. With the deepening understanding and the advancement of Chinese-speaking skills, more and more British students hope to study and work in China in the future.
