Forum for the 2010 Shanghai World Exposition, themed “Scientific and technological innovation and the future of cities”, was held at Wuxi on June 20th. It was hosted by the Department of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, the Executive Committee of the 2010 Shanghai World Exposition, Trade and Development Conference of the United Nations, and Wuxi Municipal Government.
In a panel discussion on the topic of education and talents training, our Vice President Ren Youqun made a brilliant speech titled “Responsibility of scientific education and teacher education in the elementary education”. He pointed out that scientists’ research and students’ scientific study should both be explored in elementary education and teacher education. The effectiveness of informational technology and informal study environment should be considered. The scientific education for elementary and middle schools is essential for the cultivation of our people’s scientific quality and expertise. Therefore, Mr. Ren hoped that in teacher education we should address more on scientific education, further refine the syllabus for scientific philosophy and history, and use the resources from museums, and world exposition pavilions sufficiently. Cao Jingxing, professor of our Research Institute of International Relations and Regional Development, presided over this panel discussion.
