The fourth Sino-Foreign University President Forum was held at Nanjing, China from May 2nd to 4th, 2010. State Councillor Liu Yandong made a keynote speech there. Our President Yu Lizhong, together with over 120 presidents from the mainland of China, Hong Kong, Maocao, and other countries such as the U.S., Britain, France, Germany, Japan and Russia, all attended this forum.
In the forum, President Yu took part in the third parallel team and made a brilliant speech focusing on the quality control and assessment of the talents in the universities.
In the speech, Yu addressed two principles. One was that high standards and multi-adaptation should be incorporated in teaching the undergraduates. The other was that the elite education did not guarantee high quality, while the popular higher education did not necessarily result in low achievement. According to different goals, the weight for each assessed point can be varied. Some indicators should be taken into consideration, such as organization ability, cooperation ability, information acquisition ability, application ability, inter-discipline communication ability, and comprehension ability towards complex systems.
