President Yu Lizhong headed our African Work Delegation of Six People to visit Tanzania from February 27th, 2010 to March 3rd, 2010. The delegation met our Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania, signed cooperation memorandums with Nelson Mandela University of Science and Engineering and Tanzanian National Education Research Institute respectively, talked with the Minister of Tanzanian Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, and visited the well-known African University – Dar es Salaam University.
In detail, the delegation arrived at the capital of Tanzania – Dar es Salaam on the afternoon of February 27th, 2010. Director of Tanzanian National Education Research Institute Mr. Paul D. Mushi and other officials from our Consulate-general received us at the airport. After that, our delegation came to the Consulate-general. President Yu introduced our university and the goal of this visit to our Ambassador Liu Xinsheng and other officials there, hoping that we could get support from them. Ambassador Liu spoke highly of our strategy of cooperating with the African counterparts, expressing that they would give all-dimensional support to the cooperation between East China Normal University and the Tanzanian organizations.
On the morning of March 1st, 2010, our delegation met President Burton .M. Mwamila of Nelson Mandela University of Science and Engineering, and its vice President Professor Alfonso M. Dubi and vice President Professor Dunstan T.K. Shemwetta. The two parties signed a cooperation memorandum, showing the interest to further cooperation.
That afternoon, the delegation visited Tanzanian National Education Research Institute and signed a memorandum there. President Yu introduced our university in detail and talked about the fields we want to cooperation and the programs that can be initiated at present. He also listened to the advice on the Program of African Master of Education. Professor Mushi express great interest to cooperate with us and made detailed suggestions on that program. On behalf of each university, President Yu And Mushi signed the cooperation memorandum to strengthen the cooperation in ten fields such as teacher and principal training, cooperative research, curriculum and textbook design and teacher exchange.
On the morning of March 2nd, accompanied by Ambassador Liu Xinsheng and Cultural Counsellor Liu Dong, our delegation visited Tanzanian Ministry of Education and Vocational Training. Its Minister Professor Jumanne A. Maghembe and other senior officials all took part n the meeting. President Yu introduced the goal of this visit. Minister Maghembe expressed warmly welcome to us, and will give support to the cooperation.
That afternoon the delegation went to School of Teacher Education of Dar es Salaam University and had discussions with its dean Professor Salome B. Misana. Vice President Ren Youqun introduced our university and the goal of this visit. Professor Zhou Nanzhao exchanged views with them on strengthening teacher education under the framework of UNESCO. Professor Misana wished that we could help them, in particular, in the field of special education. President Yu expressed that we are willing to further the cooperation with them.
The next morning, the delegation and Counsellor Liu Dong visited Dar es Salaam University. President Yu and their deputy President Yunus D. Mgaya introduced each university and the possible cooperation fields. Zhang Jing gave suggestions on cooperation on Oceanography. And then the two parties signed cooperation memorandum in ten related fields such as cooperative research, co-training graduate students, curriculum and textbook design and human resource development.
What’s more, vice President Ren Youqun and Zhu Zhiting had discussions with vice President Elifas Tozo Bisanda of Tanzanian Open University on distant education.
In addition, the delegation went to the Chinese Public Cemetery to condole the experts who contributed their life for constructing the railway there.
Up to now the visit to the three countries in Africa was a complete success. It built excellent foundation for our further cooperation with them.
