President Yu Lizhong headed our African Work Delegation visited Ethiopia from February 24 to 26, 2010. The delegation visited the well-known top university of Ethiopia – Addis Ababa University, had discussions with the minister of National Affairs Ministry and other leaders of related departments, negotiated with UNESCO on international organization participation in multi-lateral cooperation, and met our ambassador in Ethiopia.
The delegation arrived in Ethiopia on February 24th. Our counsellor of political affaris Wei Hongtian and UNESCO IICBA program leader Getachew Kelemu received them at the airport.
On the morning of February 25th, the delegation met Dr. Ato Fuad Lbrahim, minister of National Affairs Ministry. They also exchanged views with leaders in other departments. President Yu introduces our cooperation plan with Ethiopia, putting much emphasis on the African Master of Education Program. Ethiopian people expressed great interest, showing the willingness to provide all-dimensional support for the cooperation.
On the afternoon of February 25th, the delegation visited Addis Ababa University and UNESCO respectively.
At IICBA Professor Zhou Nanzhao introduced the preliminary implement of related programs to the director of IICBA Julien Doboue, and then exchanged views on the 2010 cooperation plan. After that, President Yu explored the possibility of cooperation on training African Master of Education with IICBA.
At Addis Ababa University, the delegation had talks with its president Professor Andreas Eshete, vice President Dr. Hirut Woldemarian, and other leaders related on issues of mutual interest. Both parties expressed that cooperation can be carried out in many fields.
On the morning of February 26th, some members of the delegation attended the IICBA board meeting on invitation. After listening to their reports, Zhou Nanzhao and Ren Youqun made suggestions on their 2010 IICBA work plan, and had discussions with Mr. Tang Qian, a deputy educational assistant Secretary General of UNESCO.
On the afternoon of February 26th, the delegation came to our Consulate-General to Ethiopia. President Yu Lizhong introduced our goal of this visit and our strategic policy on African issues which echoes with our Chinese African policies, to Ambassador Gu Xiaojie, Counselor Wei Hongtian, Counselor Song Yanqun and the others. Gu Xiaojie spoke highly of our internationalization strategy, expressing the willingness to provide support to our programs there. Both parties thought that the prospects will be bright for our cooperation programs in Ethiopia.
