ECNU Key Laboratory of Brain Functional Genomics Made Smart “Transgenic Rats”

11/26/2009

Researchers of Key Laboratory of Brain Functional Genomics at ECNU, which is funded by the Ministry of Education and Shanghai Municipal Government, made smart transgenic rates with the joint effort of the researchers of Georgia University of Medicine and Science in the U.S.. They further approved that Gene NR2B plays an essential role in the memories during learning process. The achievement was published on the newest PLos One, titled “Genetic Enhancement of Memory and Long-Term Potentiation but Not CA1 Long-Term Depression in NR2B Transgenic Rats” (on Oct. 19th, 2009). It is significant for the development of brain science and for improving human’s memory.

This research was under the support of Project 973 of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Shanghai Science and Technology Bureau, and Yunnan Science and Technology Bureau. The teams were led by Professor Cao Xiaohua and Professor Qian Zhuo.
