Chancellor Zhang Jishun headed a delegation to visit many universities in the U. S. in October.

On October 16th, Zhang Jishun headed our delegation of four people together with deputy Mayor of Shanghai Shen Xiaoming’s delegation of seven people visited New York University. During the meeting with President John Sexton of New York University, the three parties had discussion on establishing an overseas campus of New York University in Shanghai and reached a common ground.

During the visit, Zhang Jishun’s delegation also visited the University of Illinois (Champaign Campus). In the meeting, the two parties reflected the previous exchanges, looking forward to further cooperation. Since 2006, University of Illinois (Champaign Campus) had a program named Freeman Fellowship with us. Up to now, three youth teachers had been selected for the program, going for its Research Centre of East Asian and Pacific Regions for a one-year study. After the meeting, Zhang Jishun made a report to teachers and students there. The title was “Imagine in Isolation: Hongkong Movies in Shanghai from 1949 to the early 1960s”. The audience interacted with Zhang actively and enthusiastically in the three-hour lecture. In order to promote deeper cooperation between the two universities, Zhang Jishun, on behalf of East China Normal University, signed an all-dimensional cooperation framework with them. After that, Zhang’s delegation visited its School of Education and Beckman Institute.

From October 21st to 24th, the delegation visited University of California (Berkeley). Zhang Jishun made a keynote speech titled “See Through the Education Fairness in China in the Perspective of Students in Financial Difficulties” in the second “Harvard-Berkeley Forum on Contemporary Higher Education in China”. The speech raised much attention from the present professors and other experts.

From October 25th to 26th, the delegation visited University of Oregon. The two parties reached consensus on the cooperation in the fields of Chinese culture, Chinese history and Teaching Chinese. Zhang Jishun made constructive advice on the 5th Confucius Institute founded in the U. S. by us.

When the delegation was in the U.S., we had some discussion with the Chinese professors in many famous institutions and universities.
