First International Undergraduate Conference on Climate, Water, Weather and Society was held at ECNU. Vice President Chen Qun and Zafar Adeel unveiled the Research Centre for Risk on International Coastal Cities co-founded by ECNU and IHDP.
On the opening ceremony, vice President Chen Qun made a welcome speech. Professor Michael Glantz of Colorado University and Professor Zafar Adeel of University of United Nations made a speech respectively. Professor Joe Tribbia and some leaders of our administrative departments attended the ceremony, too. The ceremony was presided over by our Professor Gao Wei, who was also the chairman of the conference.
The conference was hosted by ECNU, Colorado University, NCAR, and State University of Colorado. It got support from Chinese Association of Science and Technology, CNC-IHDP, Shanghai Commission of Science and Technology, Clinton Foundation and Rockefeller Foundation. About 150 professionals and students attended the conference, including experts from related departments of UN, and representatives from America, Canada, Norway, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Nepal, Romania, the Kyrgyz Republic, Malaysia, and China. During the 5-day conference, many discussions were held, resulted in the Declaration on Climate Change by College Students in the World, which would be proposed on the 15th meeting of Treaty concluded countries on Climate Change held in Copenhagen later this year .
