Prof. Susan Fuhrman, president of Teachers College at Columbia University headed a delegation, composed of Dr. A. Lin Goodwin, vice president in charge of teachers education, Dr. William Baldwin, Vice Provost of the college, Dr. Portia Williams, director of International Affairs, Ms. Chang Yan Davis, special president assistant of the college and vice dean of Graduate School of Education at Pennsylvania University, USA, visited ECNU from March 15th to 18th. Party Secretary Zhang Jishun, President Yu lizhong and Vice President Zhuang Huiming met the delegation and had productive talks on matters relating to bilateral cooperation.
The bilateral cooperation in the agreement involves pedagogy (such as teacher education, Ph.D. of education and Master of education programs, teacher and educational administration theory), Chinese language teaching, early child recognition and mathematics education etc. The two sides also came to an agreement on doctoral candidate overseas study, undergraduate students overseas summer session study (summer school), faculty exchange and scientific cooperation etc. related to “program 985”. The two sides will recognize credits earned from the other side’s Ph.D. and Master Programs.
At the end of the talks, Yu Lizhong and Susan Fuhrman signed the comprehensive cooperation agreement on behalf of the two sides. A free undergraduate normal students overseas summer session study (summer school) program will start this summer. Other cooperation programs in the agreement will start afterwards gradually.
On behalf of ECNU, President Yu Lizhong conferred Honorary Professor of ECNU upon Ms. Susan Fuhrman. Susan made an academic report titled “Establishing high quality teacher educational system in 21st century” in ECNU’s “Daxia Forum”, warmly welcomed by the teachers and students at ECNU.
