Professor Ruan Shigui of University of Miami in American visited our department of Mathematics on invitation from December 29th of 2008 to January 18th of 2009. He gave a brilliant academic report to us on January 9th.
Professor Ruan Shigui is a very well-known expert on the researches about the models of ecological and infectious diseases. His academic lectures are profound in meaning but presented in a simple way. In this report, he used many precious pictures and resources to introduce vividly the application, methodology and significance of mathematics for the control, prevention and cure for the ecological and infectious diseases. We got a deep impression of it.
Professor Ruan Shigui was granted his doctoral degree of Applied Mathematics by Canadian Alberta University in 1992. His major concern is about the application of dynamic system, differential equation, and their application on biology and medicine. He published many academic theses on international authoritative journals, which were widely cited by peers. He now has been sponsored by NSF and NIH in America. And he has been invited by over 10 international conferences or forums to give presentations. He has also given reports or lectures for more than 60 universities world-wide, organized over 10 international conferences and symposiums, and co-edited 7 collections of theses.
