Our Professor Zhou Xiaoming Published his Latest Research Achievement on Nature. Neuroscience

01/05/2009

The development of nervous system in its early phase is mainly determined by hereditary factors, but it is also influenced deeply by the environmental ones. The noises around will do harm to our hearing, in particular, to the babies, whose hearing and even language ability and intelligence would be damaged heavily. Then, could this damage be repaired? Recently our Professor Zhou Xiaoming together with Professor Merzenich M. M of Californian University in America, took the mice for example to prove that special auditory training could help repair the damages made in the early times which disable the audio-time function of the audio area of the cerebral cortex.

The potential application of this research will be great. Thanks to its strategies, we could help some mentally retarded children or adults, and even postpone the intelligence recession of the senior.

It is reported that since 2006 Professor Zhou Xiaoming and Merzenich had cooperated to do researches on audio information processing and the plasticity of audio development. These years they he published 2 theses about his achievements on the key journals. And now he again published a thesis on Nature. Neuroscience.
