American Ecological Scholar Li Bailian Gave a Lecture in our University

In the morning of December 23rd of 2008, Li Bailian, tenor professor of Mathematical and Theoretical Ecology of Flora Department of Californian University in America and director of Model-constituting Laboratory of Ecological Complexity, gave a high level academic lecture titled Ecological Complexity of the Coupled System of Nature and Humans.

 

The lecture introduced the general methodology, current situation and future of the researches on ecological complexity of the coupled system of nature and humans. In detail, he explained it in 5 sections, including the challenges to traditional Ecology, the beginning and development of ecological complexity, the fundamentals and framework of ecological complexity, the basic features and heated issues of the theories of ecological complexity, and the substantial application of the Complexity Theory. In the lecture, Professor Li took his own experience as examples, talking about the importance of the horizon and ideas for scientific researches. He also made some comments on the urgency and features of the current research in China, pointing out the great value of the “Bottom-up” researches.

 

Thanks to his profound academic mastery, and lively research experience, Professor Li made the lecture informative and interesting. Over 60 teachers and students listened to it. After it, Professor Li answered questions patiently. The questions were concerning about the suggestions on solving our environmental problems and issues of Optimism. The lecture helped us broaden the eyesight and improved the academic communications
