French Expert on Molecular Filter Professor Laurent Bonnviot of LSH Gave a Lecture in our University

12/15/2008

Recently Mr. Laurent Bonnviot, expert on molecular filter and professor of LSH in France gave the students of our Department of Chemistry a lecture titled “Molecular Surface Engineering in Confined Space of Meso-Structured Porous Silicas”. The leaders of the department, professors of Shanghai Key Laboratory of Green Chemistry and more than 80 students of Department of Chemistry took part in the lecture.

Moreover, Professor Bonnviot would apply for one of our teaching chairs – Professor for Zijiang Lectures.

During the lecture, he put much emphasis on introducing the latest achievements of his team project on bionic catalyst designing and synthesizing. He began with the history of bionic catalyzing, exploring the scientific thinking and methodology on the primitive innovation. It is considered that recognition, observation and study are not only the original actuating forces of the advancement of human civilization, but also the origin of inspiration of innovative studies on chemistry. Later on, he elaborated the main task his team worked for, which contributed to the experimental and theoretical basis for the new generation of catalyst synthesizing. In the end of the lecture, Professor Bonneviot explained concisely about the latest achievement on the project cooperated with our key laboratory.

Mr. Laurent Bonnviot, chemistry professor of LSH in France, is now a member of GFZ and an editor of New Journal Chemistry by British Royal Chemistry Association. He has published 73 influential academic theses and 5 comprehensive theses on the noted international journals such as Angew. Chem., J. Am. Chem., Soc., Chem. Mater., Chem. Commun., and J. Catal.. He has organized 4 international conferences related to catalyst, one of which was initiated by him. He has a very high reputation internationally and has been invited by the famous universities to give reports more than 30 times.
