In the lecture, Professor Zhou introduced related knowledge, expressing his erudition and attainments on CAD for VLSI IC, design of calculation method, formulation method and so on.

Professor Zhou pointed out that the speed of micro-processors could not be raised without limit and that program could function only when a new generation of chips shall be made. And if the chips are not applicable, no one would like to purchase them. He also told us the current challenges and how to cope with them. In the end, he described the possible prospects of software and hardware, pointed out the goals we should strive for and expressed his wishes to our students.

Zhou Hai is now a professor of the Department of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science of US Northwestern University. He got his bachelor and master degrees of Computer Science in Tsinghua University in 1992 and 1994 respectively. In 1999 he graduated from University of Texas at Austin and got his doctoral degree.
