The ceremony for granting doctorates to 08 doctors was held in the Great Hall on the North Zhongshan Campus on October 18th. It was a landmark for the 385 doctors of 08 Grade in their life.
Chairman of our Academic Degree Commission, President Yu Lizhong, and some members of the commission attended the ceremony. 125 doctors came here to receive their degree. More than 100 supervisors of doctors came, too. There were also some people coming to watch it, including more than 400 doctors, postgraduates and undergraduates.
The ceremony began at 14 o’clock. At first, all stood up, singing our national anthem. Then President Yu granted the degrees to doctors one by one, and took photos with them.
After that, President Yu made an important speech. He congratulated the doctors and thanked their supervisors, our faculty and their relatives who were supporting them. President Yu made 3 wishes for them. Firstly, he hoped that the doctors should pass down our fine traditions and undertake their social responsibility. Secondly, he hoped that they should give priority to morality, improve oneself and foster one’s thoughts and good characters, not only being a doctor in one’s profession, but also being a doctor in one’s life. Thirdly, he hoped that they should further explore and study creatively. As the Chinese saying goes, “Our life has a limit, but knowledge is without limit”, it is just a beginning for one’s academic life when one receives the degree. He wished that they all could learn through their life.
