1st National Doctor Forum on Estuarine and Coastal Science Held in our University

We have been holding the 1st National Doctor Forum on Estuarine and Coastal Science from September 25th to 27th. More than 120 Doctors in related areas have come here, discussing some heated issues on “Rivers, Seas and Oceans” “Coastal Wetlands Ecology and Biogeochemistry” and “Coastal Resource Development and Environment”.

 

President Yu Lizhong gave an introduction of our researches on Estuarine and Coastal Science, which is in one of the best disciplines of our university. The discipline has 2 distinguishing features. One is focus on the integration of theory and practice, which requires us to create new theory on the basis of the needs and development of Shanghai, and even our country, and to participate in some key projects to apply our theories. The other is to pay more attention to inter-disciplinary cooperation, which would enable us to extend our research field from dynamic deposits and kinematical earth surface to estuarine ecology and biogeochemistry. President Yu thought that Estuarine and Coastal Research is very important. And he hoped that young people could undertake the historic task and make contributions to the development of the science and the construction of our country.
