09/16/2008

At 18 o'clock of Mid-autumn Day in 2008, besides Cherry River next to Hexi shopping mall on Minhang campus came our garden party themed "Mid-autumn Moon Lightening the Sky; Happiness Laughter Brightening our Campus". The lights were sparking with our tender hearts in the clear night. The party, held by our Youth League Committee and Students' Union, was aimed to glorify our traditional culture by giving us a pleasant Mid-autumn Day.

The weather smiled on us, and hurricane Sinlaku had left Shanghai by that afternoon after all. The moon came out of the clouds before the party. A quarter past 18 later, more and more students came there. Excellent performance began on the stage when various interesting games started. The atmosphere became higher and higher. The main area for this party was next to Hexi shopping mall. There were four games: throwing rings, clamping hoodles, sticking pseudo-nose and guessing riddles on lanterns. A stage was in the northern corner of the area. Around it were students watching programs happily, which was like a fantastic miniature of the merry night. Whether its foreign students' Chinese songs, bold dancing by Mongolian boys and girls, or the touching Returning Home sung by one of the top 10 singers of our university, they all helped to add fuel to the ardent ambience.

During the party time, students walked 3 bridges according to Southern Yangtze's custom with great interest. The people who participated in the activities made "sachet of wish"under the guidance to express their feelings.

Students present generally thought that this party was successful, which had integrated traditional Chinese fine culture with modern flavor and also created a cozy home to relieve their nostalgia. A freshman of Chinese Department, a Miao girl, said to the stuff excitedly, "This party is really wonderful. I was very happy when I threw the ring to the right place. I am very lucky, for I had a fabulous festival immediate after I came to ECNU. Our university really embodies her profound humane spirit." Another student of Chemistry Department felt quite a pity that he hadn't won any gifts there, but he was also very happy. He said, "This party is sweet, which manifests the spirit of Love in ECNU. This is the first time I have had Mid-autumn Day outside, and I believe that Shanghai will be my second hometown."
