From September 9th to 10th, the International Workshop on Complex Networks: Theory and Applications was held in our Science Building. In order to promote academic exchanges between our researchers and other world-known scholars in related areas, discuss the latest results and tendency of complex networks, and propel the research on complex networks in our university, our Theoretical Physics Research Institute held this workshop. On invitation of dean of the institute, Professor Liu Zhonghua, 4 professors from Kyoto University in Japan, including Professor Toyonori Munakata, visited our university and communicated with us academically from September 7th to 13th.
During the meeting, members present exchanged views widely and deeply, which gave our graduates a lot of profound ideas and insightful advanced achievements. Meanwhile, the meeting furthered the cooperation between Kyoto University and our university. Taking the opportunity,Professor Munakata gave a university-level lecture to our teachers and students. The title was Stochastic systems with delay: entropy production and dissipative structures. The content was about the latest discoveries of entropy production and dissipative structures, and their application in complex networks, which was informative and useful.
The workshop was a complete success. It enabled us to know the latest research achievement, to improve our capacity of complex scientific research, and to strengthen the cooperation between our institute and other world famous research teams.
Professor Munakata is a world-known scholar in the field of Statistics and Theoretical Physics, and an authority of Non-equilibrium Statistical Physics. He has published more than 100 theses in many international famous magazines such as Phys. Rev. Lett.. He had got his doctorate in Tokyo University in Japan in 1974, and become professor of Kyoto University since 1993. He founded the Statistical Physics Research Institute and up to now he has been its leader. Recently its researches mainly deal with Statistical Physics, Complex Networks, Stochastic Process and Information Processing and so on. His scientific research team has done many important jobs on Non-equilibrium Statistical Physics and Complex Networks.
