On September 9th, the opening ceremonies of the new term for the new students had been held. The new ECNUers of 2008 Grade would begin their new life. There were 3 ceremonies held respectively for the non-normal students on Minhang Campus and North Zhongshan Road Campus, and the new normal students on the both campuses mentioned above. Lin Zaiyong, vice Secretary and vice President, presided over the ceremonies. Secretary Zhang Jishun, President Yu Lizhong, vice Secretary Du Gongzhuo, vice President Tang Mingjian, Zhuang Huiming and Zhu Min attended those ceremonies.
President Yu Lizhong made enthusiastic speeches in the ceremonies. On behalf of all our faculty and students, President Yu welcomed the new comers to join in our big family – East China Normal University. He said that there is a well-known comment on our university, which is “Love in ECNU”. He emphasized that this love is profound and it is the love for our parents, brothers, sisters, teachers, classmates, university, society and the earth we live on. He wished the students to work with vigor for prosperity, to push forward to win their way and to strive hard for a bright future. In the ceremony for normal students, President Yu introduced the background of the free normal student policy and some measures made by our university. He hoped that the normal students could keep our university motto and their own mission firmly in mind, live up to the expectation of our Party and nation, and strive for becoming an excellent teacher as well as an educator.
Zhuang Huiming proclaimed a brief introduction of the life of our university’s first president Meng Xiancheng, and led the normal students to take oaths. Lin Zaiyong and Zhuang Huiming in turn read out “Decision on commending students who had been volunteers of the Beijing Olympics and gone for Sichuan to provide disaster relief” by our university’s Party committee. Du Gongzhuo announced “Decision on commending Doctor Si Hongchang and his supervisor Professor Ding Gang”. Zhang Jishun gave awards to Si Hongchang, whose thesis had been selected into the National Outstanding Doctoral Thesis, and she also gave awards to his supervisor Professor Ding Gang.
