In the morning of September 4th, the opening ceremony, presided by our vice President Chen Qun, was held for the 2008 international students in the Science Hall.
During the opening ceremony of the new term, President Yu Lizhong made an enthusiastic speech. On behalf of all faculty and students of our university he gave a warmly welcome to new comers. He also gave a brief introduction of our university about our history, current situation and internationalization. He said that international students added vigour and vitality to our university. He swore to give each international student excellent service. Talking about “To be an ECNUer” President Yu Lizhong spoke out his sincere desire of “joining in the big family of East China Normal University” (ECNU) “being good student here” and “becoming envoy of friendship for every civilization”.
After that students from Cameroon and Azerbaijan addressed in turn. One was a sophomore of School of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, who thought that living and learning in ECNU was quite convenient and there were always various activities for them. The other was the representative for new comers, expressing that he would get used to the new environment and start a new life.
Deputy director of our International Exchange Office Huang Meixu, deputy director of Teaching Affairs Office Chen Lingxi and deputy director of the Training Department of Graduate School Li Haisheng all gave lessons to them on some life and studies.
