From June 23 to July 4, Assistant Professor Pei Xinning and Zhao Jian of our Study and Science Centre had gone to Burgundy in France for 2008 BioED. They also went to France Education Research Institute in Leon for the “Video Analysis Method on Class Research” workshop.
This BioED had been held by the Education Committee of International Biological Science Association, UNESCO, Scientific theory of knowledge, teaching and learning Laboratory of University of Geneva, University of Burgundy and other associations. The topic is “Sustainable development, Ethics and 2020 Education: What are the challenges to Biology?” Many influential scientists, philosophers, politicians and educators from science and social education communities were invited there, discussing some problems concerning environment, sustainable development, health and hygiene, and the knowledge of making people happy. They also discussed on exploring and applying new education techniques and methods, and the effects of science and values on education. They probed into and evaluated the diversity of method and topic, sustainable development, ethics and citizen biological quality.
Pei Xinning had been elected member of the organization committee of 2008 BioED last year in Geneva. In many meetings of the organization committee this time, Pei Xinning submitted proposals about “Pay attention to the effects of biology education on the development of society; expand the field of biology education research; strengthen cooperation among different subjects; explore methodological reform on scientific education research. He made his argument that we should consider our biology education according to the development of countries’ and to the conflicts between the prospect and reality of the education in developing countries. The organization committee paid great attention to his point, made cautious discussion, and decided to put a proposal into the development layout of biology education research in the coming 20 years. On June 26th, in the plenary meeting Pei Xinning and Zhao Jian together made a research report titled Green Chemistry, Recycled Economy and Nurture of Citizen’s Biological Quality – Research on Designing Practical Scientific Studies, introducing a cooperative research by the team in the Study and Research Centre and giving new structures of designing scientific education on real occasions and new methods of research on AD.
On June 29th, the 2 scholars went to Leon and INRP. They, together with education research experts there and from University of Berkeley, took part in the “Video Analysis Method on Class Research” workshop, and exchanged views on the methods and tools of class researches.
