Chancellor Zhang and President of Suny Albany, George Philip have signed student exchange agreements
Chancellor Zhang, Consul General of China to Chicago Huang Pin and deputy Consul General Chu Maoming are talking amicably
From July 16 to 19, Chancellor Zhang Jishun had headed a party of 3 people, including president’s assistant Ren Youqun to visit State University of New York at Albany in America. They saw 30 teachers who are receiving English training during the summer vacation there, took part in the founding ceremony of our ECNU’s Alumni Association in central and west America, had an audience with the Consulate General of China to Chicago, called on our alumni and visited the Consul General Mr. Huang Ping and other people in our Consulate General to Chicago.
At the State University of New York at Albany, Chancellor Zhang Jishun and her party met its President Mr. George Philip, Chief educational administrator Professor Susan Philips, deputy Chief educational administrator in charge of foreign affairs, Professor Ray Bromley, director of foreign affairs Doctor James M. Pasquill II, dean of School of Humanities and Sciences Professor Edelgard Wulfert, Dean of School of Business, Professor Donald S. Siegel, dean of School of Education, Professor Robert Bangert-Drowns and dean of School of Social Activities, Professor Katharine Briar-Lawson respectively. We also had a look at its School of Nanometre, library, Department of East Asian, Centre of Functional Genes and so on, and had friendly talks with them on cooperation and exchange in related fields. After the talks, Secretary Zhang Jishun and President Mr. George Philip signed the cooperation agreements of undergraduates exchange in our 2 universities.
During the visit at the State University of New York at Albany, Chancellor Zhang Jishun and her party saw our youth teachers of more than 30, who are receiving English training in the summer vacation there, and they recommend them to cherish the opportunity to learn modestly, to improve themselves persistently, and to make contribution to the development of our university.
On July 19th,Chancellor Zhang Jishun and her party had taken part in the founding ceremony of our ECNU’s Alumni Association of central and west America in Chicago in heavy rains. We introduced the development history of our university, the quality of teachers and the construction of subjects to about 60 alumni from central and west America, emphasizing our strategic development plan and target after entering the 985 Program for higher education. Alumni expressed one after another that they wanted to give suggestions on and do their best to the development of their Alma Mater.
During the visit, Chancellor Zhang Jishun and her party visited representative of Mayor of Chicago, Mr. Robert Davis and his group, too.
After meeting our alumni and taking part in the founding ceremony, Chancellor Zhang Jishun and her party went to the Consulate General of China to Chicago by car without stop, seeing our alumnus, Consul General of China to Chicago, Mr. Huang Ping, who was in our Department of Geography and had graduated by 1979. We went into deep discussions friendly and fruitfully with Consul General Mr. Huang Ping, Vice Consul General Chu Maoming, counselor titled consul Wang Xiaowei, Consul Xiong Sheng and so on about improving educational communication between our university and the ones in central and west America, and launching activities for alumni, in particular, co-training Chinese, Mathematics and Physics teachers in the Confucius Institute at Chicago in America, which is supported by our university in China.
It is also reported that our president assistant Ren Youqun headed our delegation to attend the “Sino-American Education Communication and Cooperation Congress” held by International Communication Association on Chinese Education and American Public Study and Research University Association in New Hampshire from July 11 to 15 and to make a gist speech in the congress. After the meeting, Ren Youqun and his delegation saw our alumni at Boston and visited Massachusetts Institute of Technology, including its Media Laboratory, and the post-graduate School of Education of Harvard University.
