“My five-year study experience in China has shaped my ideology and enabled me to view the world through multiple lenses, but the first few weeks as a freshman in ECNU crowns it all,”said Reshad from Afghanistan.
After the competitive and rigorous admission process, Reshad was finally admitted into ECNU as a postgraduate student majoring in ‘Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages’. The Afghan student shares how thrilled he was to be among the selected candidates for 2021 based on the recommendation of his former teachers and friends who in past years attended ECNU.
In fact, when he arrived on the campus he fondly described as the ‘heart of Shanghai’, it was just as what he had read and heard about. But it was what he later discovered about ECNU that increased his love of pursuing his study here. Reshad is amazed to find how learned his teachers are and how meticulously they teach the international students.
“I was astonished by the freedom and convenience of campus life. With just a swipe of my student card, I can get almost everything done. I really enjoy the serene environment and the solitude I find in it,”said Reshad.
The MA program in Education Policy and School Reform (EPSR) offered by ECNU Department of Education appeared in the web search of a Sri Lankan, Dilshani.
The positive and friendly responses from the admissions office revealed how welcoming ECNU is to the new students. The profile of the lecturers and the program structure also affirm how ground-breaking the program will be if she gets the opportunity.
Later, Dilshani was enrolled to pursue her dream program at ECNU.“After contacting the professors in this program and my colleagues, I find the program, which is taught in English, matches those of other world class universities I have contacts with,”said Dilshani.
She recalls the opportunity she had of attending international symposiums and other programs organized by international organizations in education. Above all, Dilshani finds the strict but selfless lecturers a unique part of her study because they push her to do more and better.
Nakyeong Kwon, a Korean enrolled to study the Chinese language in ECNU, was poised to visit China and Shanghai and study in ECNU. At the very beginning, she was deeply impressed by the favorable reviews given to her by some alumni on the lecturers teaching in that program.
Nakyeong shares her experiences about the first week’s class: she recalled how patient, detailed and welcoming the teachers were. They were given the opportunity to choose the level they wished to start, which was indeed helpful. Kwon was deeply fascinated the first day when she experienced the ‘newspaper reading’ class, and the technicalities of writing and analyzing scripts.
She finds her life on campus interesting and rewarding, meeting different students from other countries, practicing the Chinese language, and getting to know more cultures through rich university activities.
I wish to invite everyone I know to apply for ECNU’s program of Chinese language education. It’s the best of the best, said Nakyeong.
