As the temperature gets higher, it’s time to tuck away the winter clothes and do some sports activities in light jackets!
The university offers a variety of “Health ECNU” sports courses. In addition to basketball, football, and yoga, special courses such as archery is also offered.
Archery is a traditional Chinese sport. This course is taught by Li Houzhi from the College of Physical Education and Health of ECNU. In the class, ECNUers can gain professional skills and feel the charm of traditional Chinese culture.
Archery is the perfect combination of ancient Chinese sports and culture. Traditional archery training is not only the training of physique and archery skills, but also the training of one’s psychology, said Li Houzhi.
Archery practice emphasizes both morality and propriety, and the integration of the body and mind. What archery pursues is not only hitting the target, but also utilizing this process to cultivate the archer's moral quality. Therefore, as a typical symbol of Chinese culture, archery embodies profound traditional cultural connotations and Confucian philosophy,” Li said.
"I am not good at sports, but thanks to the archery class, I can still enjoy the joy of physical education. When aiming at the goal, I can soon calm down and become less impetuous," said Yin Yue, a postgraduate student majoring in Chinese.
ECNU caters for almost any sport or recreational activity, with a wide range of exceptional indoor and outdoor facilities all based on campus.
The university also has various sports clubs, all of which are run voluntarily by students. There are also clubs run by international students.
You can also choose to take a stroll or ride along the Liwa or Cherry River and enjoy the sights with a light heart, or jog along the river bank for some exercise. These activities are easily accessible as you don’t need any special equipment or perfect skills.
