07/01/2024

On June 27, a delegation from the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), led by Alain Mermet, Director of the European and International Cooperation Office, visited East China Normal University (ECNU). ECNU vice president Dai Liyi welcomed the delegation.

Dai Liyi extended a warm welcome to the delegation and introduced the development history, academic features, and existing collaborations with France at ECNU. He emphasized that in the context of the rise of AI, ECNU is eager to strengthen the existing foundation of cooperation with CNRS and explore new areas of collaboration. He noted that 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, and ECNU aims to use this opportunity to deepen cooperation and promote cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Alain Mermet expressed his gratitude for ECNU's warm reception. After hearing an overview of the university's collaborations with France, he highly praised the achievements, especially the collaborative projects with CNRS. He provided a brief overview of CNRS, highlighting its commitment to cooperation with China and expressing a desire to enhance collaborations in fields such as marine sciences, green chemistry, and humanities and social sciences.

The Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS, national center for scientific research) is a public research body that operates with oversight from the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. CNRS produces knowledge and applies that knowledge in the public interest. Since establishing its representative office in Beijing in 1995, CNRS has become a vital bridge for scientific and technological cooperation between China and France.
