10/03/2025

Taking place over October 2 and 3, the 2025 Head of Shanghai River Regatta kicked off with immense excitement, setting the Suzhou River abuzz! Under the theme “Rowing to the World”, ECNU’s rowing team delivered outstanding news, achieving a double championship by winning both the 4.2km pursuit race and the 500m city sprint (Mixed Eight with Coxswain, University Group).

On the afternoon of October 2, the 4.2km pursuit race was officially launched on the gently rippling Suzhou River under the autumn sky. Following the starting signal, the ECNU rowing team shot off like an arrow from a bow, carving elegant yet powerful trajectories across the shimmering water. With seamless coordination and a steady stroke rate, the team demonstrated exceptional aerobic capacity and technical endurance, ultimately crossing the finish line first with a clear lead, securing the championship on the first day of competition.

The competition moved into its second day on October 3, featuring two rounds of the 500m city sprint. This shorter distance required greater explosive power and technical precision, intensifying the competition. The ECNU crew promptly adjusted their tactics and, under the precise guidance of their coach, delivered excellent performances in both rounds, clinching the championship once again. This victory showcased the team’s comprehensive competitive ability and steady mental fortitude.

“Behind the honor lies the team’s arduous training day after day. Under whatever conditions, they poured sweat on the training ground, constantly challenging their limits, perfectly embodying the fighting spirit of ECNU students,” said Chen Long, who is serving as both coach and general manager. Having dedicated immense effort from daily training to competition preparation, Chen expressed post-race the team’s ambition to build on this momentum and strive for even greater breakthroughs next year.

Currently, ECNU highlights four high-level sports teams (Track & Field, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, and Volleyball) and nine permanent sports teams (Aerobics, Swimming, Football, Tennis, Badminton, Table Tennis, Boxing, Rowing, and Martial Arts). Among them, the Aerobic team has frequently participated in world competitions representing China, exhibiting outstandingperformances. ECNUs Track & Field, Basketball, and Volleyball teams have also consistently achieved excellent results and delivered impressive performances in various competitions.
