ECNU's 75th Anniversary Exhibition Displays Over 200 Archival Records

10/27/2026

An exhibition of archival records marking the 75th anniversary of East China Normal University (ECNU) opened at the university museum on October 13. The exhibition features more than 200 original items, half of which are on public display for the first time. The collection showcases the university’s longstanding dedication to scholarly and educational traditions.

Under the theme “The Light of Educators,” the exhibition comprises four sections featuring scholars’ manuscripts and letters, student records, photographs, seals and personal items from scholars’ studies. Highlights include manuscripts by scholars such as Lü Simian and Shi Zhecun, letters by Gu Tinglong, and an antique inkstone once used by poet Xu Zhimo, offering insights into earlier generations of scholars’ academic pursuits and connections. Collections preserved by scholars’ families also reflect how enduring scholarly traditions have been passed down through generations.

Lei Qili, vice president of ECNU and director of its museum, said at the opening ceremony that the exhibits reflect generations of scholars’ dedication to research and education. He expressed the hope that the exhibition would help students, faculty and alumni gain a deeper understanding of the university’s motto, “Seek Truth, Foster Originality, and Live up to the Name of a Teacher,” and pass on the university’s values.

Founded in October 1951, ECNU traces its roots to Great China University and Kwang Hua University. It was established on the former campus of Great China University. Over the past 75 years, the university has built an extensive collection of valuable historical artifacts and archival materials, providing a wealth of rare and original primary sources for the exhibition.

The anniversary exhibition runs from October 13 to November 13 at the museum’s exhibition hall on the second floor of the Bochuang Building on ECNU’s Putuo Campus, near the Jinshajiang Road entrance. Opening hours are 9:00–11:30 a.m. and 2:00–4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The museum is closed on weekends and public holidays.
