ECNU reaches an agreement with Lehigh University.
On September 11, President Chen Qun met with a delegation led by President Alice P. Gast and Vice President Mohamed El-Aasse of Lehigh University. Vice Chairman of ECNU Council & Vice President Ren Youqun, also attended the meeting.
Chen Qun welcomed Alice P. Gast and introduced ECNU's history and development to her. According to Chen, ECNU has been making great efforts to enhance and enlarge the scope of its international cooperation in recent years to build itself into a world-renowned high-level university of the 21st century.
Gast expressed her appreciation for ECNU's hospitality, and reached a consensus with Chen on establishing a teacher-student communication & cooperation platform for both sides. At the meeting, the two universities signed a cooperation deal and agreed to start a Students Exchange Program soon.
During the visit, representative professors from both universities also made detail discussions on specific cooperation programs. The face to face discussions definitely made great progress, as the School of Education Science, School of Foreign Languages, School of Communication, Department of Physics and Department of Chemistry of ECNU all made specific cooperation plans with Lehigh University respectively.

Afterwards, accompanied by Ren Youqun, the delegation visited the Alumni House and State Key Laboratory of Precision Spectroscopy of ECNU. The rich cultural and historical deposits of ECNU, as well as its world class hi-tech laboratory of interdisciplinary subject in new scientific frontiers impressed the guests deeply.
Lehigh University, a private research university located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, was established in 1865. The university is historically known for engineering. Lehigh University was ranked 30th and 38 in the United States in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
Early in 2010, ECNU began to communicate with Lehigh University. The final deal with Lehigh University after two-year efforts shows another success of ECNU in enlarging its international cooperation with high quality partners.
