3 More ECNU Professors Named Chang Jiang Scholars

The number of Chang Jiang Scholars in ECNU has risen to 21 as 3 professors in this university have been accepted in the newly issued Chang Jiang Scholars Program for 2011.

Recently, the Ministry of Education has released 2011 acceptance list of distinguished professors and chair professors for Chang Jiang Scholars Program. In the program, Prof. Mao Haijian from Department of History and Prof. Ji Liu from School of Physical Education & Health Care are appointed as distinguished professors, while Prof. Wang Zhengbing from State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research is enrolled as a chair professor. According to the Ministry of Education, the 3 ECNU professors together with other 194 distinguished professors and 51 chair professors have been selected from more than 2400 applicants.

With the 3 professors' newly enrollment in the Program, ECNU so far has 21 Chang Jiang scholars in various fields. Prof. Mao Haijian’s enrollment in the Program further improves ECNU’s high-level talents structure in humanity sciences as fields of literature, history and philosophy in the university all can see its Chang Jiang scholars at present. Furthermore, as the first Chang Jiang scholar on sports science, Prof. Ji Liu’s acceptance in the Program has made a breakthrough of Chang Jiang scholars’ appearance in this field.

Chang Jiang Scholars Program is a talent program initiated in 1998 and recruits talented scholars home and abroad every three years. According to the Program, Chang Jiang scholars can receive specific financial support for research and development from a foundation jointly launched by the Ministry of Education and the Foundation of Li Kai-sing, one of the most renowned entrepreneurs in Hong Kong. Since its establishment, the Program has attracted lots of distinguished scholars in various fields and many of them have been academic leaders. Statistics from the Ministry of Education show that by early this year, 54 Chang Jiang scholars have been selected as academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences or Chinese Academy of Engineering.
