On May 25, the 14th Shanghai region and 2nd Yangtze River Delta HEls International Students Dragon Boat Race was held at the Fengxian Campus of East China University of Science and Technology. International student teams from 34 universities in Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui province gathered together to compete for the crown of this traditional event.
With outstanding strength and excellent team spirit, ECNU’s international student dragon boat team won the championship again with a time of 53"34 seconds, writing a brilliant chapter of six championships!
At the race site, they shot out of the starting point like an arrow flying from the bow and quickly took the lead. In the first round, our dragon boat team ranked No.1 with the score of 51"92 , but they didn't slacken off, and always maintained a stable rhythm and strong impact, and finally won the championship with a good score of 53”34.
This victory is not only the affirmation of their strength, but also a sign of their unity and their spirit of hard work.
Since 2014, ECNU’s international dragon boat team has won the championship five times in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2023, and this year's victory adds to this brilliant record.
Preparation for the competition started in March, and a strong team was formed by students from 14 countries, including Norway, Canada, Korea, Japan, Turkey, Russia, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Malaysia, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan and Indonesia; the student categories cover visiting students, undergraduate students, and master students. New Oriental Vision Overseas sponsored the uniforms and paddles to rally support for the ECNU dragon boat team.
During the preparation period, regardless of wind or rain, the members of the dragon boat team devoted themselves to the training with full enthusiasm and firm resolve. Their sweat and efforts coalesced with every paddle stroke ; with every sprint they showed their unity and hard work.
The success of our international student dragon boat team in winning the championship not only won the honor for the university, but also showed the style of international students actively integrating into Chinese culture and inheriting the traditional Chinese sports spirit.
